Witches’ Coven Spread

Call on the Witches’ Coven when you find yourself in a difficult situation and need wise and efficient allies to help you find a way out. That is when your inner coven comes to the rescue. However, don’t overuse their power – as with many remedies, like herbs and spices, it’s best to use it sparingly when necessary.

Preparations

Using either the guidebook or the table below as a reference, divide the deck into six categories: witches, familiars, magical places, spirits, deities, and magical items.

Let’s begin

Recall an issue or situation with which you need the coven’s help.

1. Draw a card from the pile of magical places. The coven gathers here. This is the current situation: the place where everything begins, the root of the issue.

2, 3 and 4. Pick three witch cards and arrange them as shown in the illustration. These represent members of your inner coven, qualities that you already possess, either dormant or active. Combining them will help you achieve your goal.

Take some time to examine the cards you have in front of you. Who appears in your coven? Do you recognise any people or qualities? How do they interact with each other? Are they friends or foes? How could you encourage them to work together? As well as reading the guidebook, pay attention to the symbols and colours in the illustrations. Repeating motifs and opposites can indicate significant correlations and strengthen or nuance each other. They may even alter the meaning of the cards.

5. Draw a card from the Familiar pile. This card draws your attention to an important detail that you should be aware of: a driving force or potential hindrance that helps or prevents your witches from taking an aligned action together.

6 and 7. Now, combine the Spirit and Deity piles to form a new stack, from which you should then draw two cards. These are the entities that your witches will invoke. They indicate what you can learn from the situation. The left-hand card represents unconscious drives, instincts, desires and fears. The right-hand card represents the conscious drives that you intentionally choose and understand.

8. Draw the last card: a magical item gifted to you by the spirits and deities, which represents the main quality that will help you. You can use it to help you manage the situation further, or it may signify the right attitude or possible outcome if you follow the cards’ guidance.

Take another look at the completed spread in front of you. Your personal interpretation is especially important in this spread. What do the symbols and colours mean to you? For example, is blue your favourite colour, or do you hate it with passion? What does it remind you of in the context of the reading? Does it evoke a distant memory? How can you make the most of the situation? If you feel like it, write down your impressions in a journal.
